“Oh, hamburgers!”

High (in both senses of the word) in the Mephisto mountains, nestled between a four-assed monkey and a genetically engineered pot-bellied elephant, Drs Mitch Connor and Tim Burch have brewed up another special something. After many nights getting high and playing Funkytown on their iPhone keypads, a creation was born. A pair of nuts that could walk, talk and bring the gas, and we’re not talking about the Drs any more. Peanut Butter Breath is one of the most coveted profiles in the game, and adding that fire to the Mephisto lineup was something we couldn’t delay any further.

Back in 2018, we started a deep dive into the legendary work of Thug Pug Genetics. We’d been long-distance admirers of Gromer for a while, but we’d never had a chance to sample his work prior. We initially grew out Peanut Butter Breath [Do-Si-Dos x Mendo Breath] admittedly, as a bit of a bandwagon clinger-on. But after the first test growout, we realised the hype was real. She had everything we look for in a photoperiod; stretch, size, vigour, structure. And what blew our minds was a flavour profile that no matter how many trips to Green Dream we made in our beat up Suzuki Jimny over the years, we just hadn’t encountered in Europe before.

OGKB has become a bit of a staple of modern lineages, the influence is almost everywhere. We’ve been squirreled away in the Mephisto Mountain lab for a long time working on multiple OGKB derivatives to bring to the autoflowering world, testing out various Mephisto pairings for the photoperiods we’d selected. Starting in 2020, we needed a strain that would complement Peanut Butter Breath and the Gromer funk without being overshadowed; we needed a Phillip to Gromer’s Terrance. We toyed with several combinations, but we settled in the end on Creme de la Chem. She’s hard-hitting in her own right; adding weight and density and the classic ‘death-breath-I’m-not-your-buddy-guy’ gas that would be the perfect complement to the nutty, savoury notes of the Peanut Butter Breath parent.

Don’t let the name fool you. Butters might seem sweet and unassuming at first, but give her time and she dons the tinfoil and goes full Professor Chaos. She’s a bushy, multi-topped beauty, with golf-ball-sized nugs and leaves that show a kaleidoscope of purples, pinks, and near-black hues during senescence. She’s far more complex on the nose than she might first suggest, moving from a lemony chem during the grow to a post-cure profile that’s been described as Reese’s peanut butter cup meets dark chocolate and roasted marshmallow, along with lingering hints of spicy lemon and ammonia-type funk.

The effects follow the same arc. She’s front-loaded with a euphoric uplift; mood-brightening and social before she switches and settles into couch-lock heaven and a serious case of the munchies that’ll have you feeling like Cartman being airdropped into a Cheesy Poofs factory. Butters’ Breath is an evening strain through and through, the couch-lock makes you feel like you’re the one who’s been grounded for life yet happier than a Canadian on Pudding Day, as is tradition.

Butters’ Breath has the looks, yield and flavour locked in. Here’s all you need to know about her.

During veg, she usually shows off a classic Christmas tree shape or an apically dominant "bean pole" structure that quickly fills out into a sturdy and multi-topped bush with a bit of training. While node spacing can be a little stretchy along the main stem, she fills that space fast with strong side branching and an even canopy. She’s a vigorous and fast-paced grower with final heights landing at the upper end of medium-to-large, depending on your pot size and light setup.

Early on, you might notice a bit of a funky first leaf set where the cotyledons and first leaves twist or curl downwards. Don’t panic, as this is just a harmless quirk that she grows out of as soon as she begins to stretch. While she’s tough enough to handle some light stress or environmental swings, she’s a very communicative plant that’ll let you know quickly if things aren’t quite right, though she rarely stops stacking weight.

To get the best out of her, go with a "start lean and build gradually" feeding strategy to account for her nitrogen sensitivity in veg. Too much nitrogen early on can cause some leaf clawing, so keep the diet moderate until she starts her flowering stretch. She’s a bit of a dream for those who like to get hands-on, responding well to topping and LST to open up her canopy and promote massive lateral development. Given some of her quirks, we’d class her as an intermediate difficulty grow; but given how well she responds to training and bounces back from any difficulties you might encounter, she’s a fantastic candidate for you if you’re looking to take the next step of your grow journey.

Butters’ Breath produces golf-ball to puffball sized nugs that are rock-solid and absolutely caked in frost. She becomes a total beauty pageant queen during senescence, with colours ranging from vibrant pinks and oranges to a deep and brooding purple that can fade into a near-black finish against bright fiery pistils. This wild look, paired with a great bud-to-leaf ratio and chunky, knuckled bracts, makes for an incredibly photogenic girl, an easy trim and top-tier bag appeal.

The aroma is a three-way battle for dominance on the vine, where nutty, lemony, and chemmy notes fight for clarity. You'll get a classic dank chem presence from a distance with earthy peanut notes lurking underneath, sometimes even throwing out hints of rubber or ammonia as she matures. Once she’s cured, the complexity really deepens; you’ll find bleach and chem funk up front, bitter lemon through the grind, and a finish of roasted marshmallow and peanut butter. On the smoke, the exhale lands like a Reese’s peanut butter cup with roasted peanuts, sweet cream, and a spicy lemon twist that lingers on the palate.

The high is a slow-creeping, full-bodied experience that starts with a deeply euphoric lift, before the auditory enhancement kicks in and it all starts to slow down. She’s functional at first, but carries real potency that eventually crawls up from the legs into a heavy, body-dominant finish. If you push the dose, you're looking at serious couch-lock territory and a heavy-eyed euphoria that melts anxiety and makes sleep feel inevitable. She’s a classic evening strain for relaxation and munching your way through bowls of Cheesy Poofs.
